Why island rates are worse
An island booth has no competitor fifty metres away, has to move banknotes by ferry, and knows you cannot easily walk out. Expect to lose several percent against a city rate, on top of a wider spread on anything other than dollars and euros.
Change before you go
The smallest of the three, reached by ferry from Chumphon or Koh Phangan. What the island has is bank counters, not money changers, and dive schools often want cash. Arrive funded.
